CO-FOUNDER
ALINE SHAW
I'm Aline Shaw, wife to Robert (1987), Mother to 3 boys and Tanya (1989). Our daughter is my motivation to be actively seeking a sound community setting for her to live out her life, beyond my life, as she is determined to outlive me... against all odds. Her life has included many health concerns, and planning for her future needs is a priority for us. These gatherings with families have given me strength in challenging times and restored my hope in planning for her future.

CO-FOUNDER
leanne wheatstone
I’m Leanne Wheatstone, born and raised in Kenora. My husband and I have raised our two now-adult children here and started planning a safe, meaningful future for our daughter in her hometown. Years ago, I realized how isolating it was to do this alone. During COVID, I connected with other families through a Zoom facilitator, finding support, understanding, and manageable steps toward our goals.
This inspired me to bring that sense of connection home. Today, we have an amazing network of families in Kenora, sharing experiences, resources, and hope. Working alongside the other two founders and connecting with families has been a powerful journey, giving us strength, a collective voice, and confidence to plan for the future with knowledge of what’s possible.

CO-FOUNDER
JEAN CREASON
Hello, My name is Jean Creason and I’m an older parent of a daughter, Tara, who is twenty nine and has a developmental delay. She will always need some support. Our first concern is safe and secure housing where she can age in place. Meeting with other parents who are like minded in planning for their loved one’s future is a big plus. We all have different visions and needs but we’re here to support each other. This group gives me confidence in moving forward.
about US
We are a grassroots organization rooted in Kenora, Ontario, founded by three mothers inspired by their daughters who live with intellectual disabilities. Our journey began with a shared vision to advocate for better opportunities and collaborative living arrangements for individuals with disabilities and their families.
Today, we proudly support 30 families, serving as a hub for networking, advocacy, and collaboration. Through our work, we:

-
Empower Families: By providing resources, education, and tools, we help families navigate the challenges of adulthood transitions with confidence.
-
Build Community Connections: By building relationships with local organizations and individuals, we create a network of support for families and their loved ones.
-
Advocate for Interdependence: We promote a model of living that values independence while nurturing the mutual support that strengthens communities.
Our work is a testament to the power of grassroots advocacy and the belief that everyone deserves the chance to live a life of dignity, purpose, and connection.
